Protecting your energy can be tough these days. It seems like the world is surrounded with negativity and it’s hard to even cut on the news without hearing something outrageous. I’ll be completely honest, I don’t normally watch the news and generally rely on apps, newspapers, and the radio for my daily dose of information.
I know this is contrary to what our parents have instilled in us, but times are changing. It’s not that I’m not interested in what’s going on around the world, I just feel like it’s depressing.
A few years ago, I had a TV in my bedroom. I would stay up and watch the evening news but I wouldn’t be able to sleep well. I caught up with a friend and explained my struggle and she suggested replacing TV time with reading. This was definitely new for me but helped shift my mind and stimulated my intellectual side.
I began to read financial literacy books, blogs, daily devotionals, and the Bible, which sparked ideas. Ideas to start new ventures, like my styling business and blogging. I believe I needed the time to grow closer to God, discover my purpose, and develop my dreams.
My dad always says, Stacy, your brain is still developing even in your late 20’s. You’ve got a lifetime to grow and expand, no need to rush the process. He always mentions Jesus and how he pulled away from the disciples to pray and meditate. This was one way to protect his peace of mind.
Protecting your energy might mean something completely different for you. It could be avoiding drama, not subscribing to negative thoughts, or just taking time out for yourself. Whatever it might be, make protecting your peace a priority. Who knows it could give birth to your vision and help deliver your dreams. Feel free to share a few ways you protect your energy.
